Madras University Distance Education MBA Admission Fee 2023

Madras University-the mother of almost all the old Universities of southern India was started the Institute of Distance Education in the year 1981 to help people who want to continue their higher studies but can't join the regular classes.

Madras University offers a distance education MBA program with a total of thirteen specializations to choose from. Every year the university seek admission into the distance learning MBA program.

Madras University is accredited with “A” Grade by NAAC and conferred with the status of ‘University with Potential for Excellence’ by UGC.

Currently, the university is offering a total of 78 programs including postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma & certification programs.

Admissions are made throughout the year for all these Programmes in two streams namely Academic Year Admissions and Calendar Year Admissions.

Application Form & Prospectus

The application form can be collected in person, by post or can be downloaded from the university website. You can get it by paying Rs.100/- by cash at the Institute / Study Centre / Spot Admission Centre. 

If you want to get this by post you have to pay Rs.150/- by Demand Draft drew in favor of The Director, IDE., University of Madras, payable at Chennai. 

If you've downloaded it from the website, the cost of application form of Rs.100/- should be paid along with Registration Fee.

Admission Procedure

The university offers admission through two ways i.e Spot Admission & Single Window.

Students seeking admission directly to university campuses can get admission through the Single Window system. The university has opened a Single Window Admission Centre at the IDE building at Chepauk Campus, Chennai. The student has to collect the Application-cum-Prospectus from the Prospectus Sales Counter on payment in cash and has to pay the registration fee at the “Registration Fee Payment Counter. The Centre is open from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on weekdays including Saturdays and Sundays.

Spot admission to the first year will be given to those who come to the Institute in person or at the Spot Admission Centres and Study Centres along with the required original documents/certificates.

Eligibility Criteria

General MBA

  • A pass in any branch of the study of a Bachelor's Degree/Master's Degree of the University of Madras or any other University recognized by the UGC/AIU or a qualification accepted by this University as equivalent thereto.
  • A Professional Degree in Engineering/Technology/Medicine/Architecture/Law.
  • Professional qualification in Accountancy, Cost & Works Accountancy, Company Secretaryship.

Executive MBA

A graduate in any discipline of recognized University / deemed university under 10 + 2 + 3 patterns of education with a minimum of 3 years of work experience in managerial/supervisory / executive cadre in business/industry in private or public sector or in government/semi-government / quasi-government institutions.

University of Madras Distance Education Exam Evaluation System

Like many of the other distance education universities, UOM also follows the credit system. The candidates will be eligible to get the degree only if they earn 78 credits. It's a choice based credit system and each credit is considered as 30 hours of study time.

Students must pass all the examinations in order to earn 78 credits.

There are 15 core subjects in the Distance MBA program which add 60 credits (15 X 4)

Each elective subject carries 3 credits. There are 4 elective subjects and they add up 12 credits.

Each subject carries 100 marks (20 marks for Internals and 80 marks for Semester-end exams)

Internal marks are based on online examinations and assignments.

The students should secure at least 50% marks in order to pass the subject.
The project and other additional subjects add up another 6 credits.

The Distance MBA students at the University of Madras must submit their project report based on their investigations in an organization or business. The students must give appropriate solutions to the problems in the organization. The project report must include survey, planning, improved integrated management system, field students, and recommended solutions deduced out of collected data.

There will be a Viva exam based on the submitted project. The students who fail in viva-voce must redo the project.

Fee Concessions Offered by University of Madras, Distance Education

  • 100% tuition fee and examination fee shall be exempted for visually challenged students.
  • Full exemption of tuition fee for the differently-abled students who want to pursue a distance MBA program. They should get a disabled certificate with at least 40% disability from a competent medical authority.
  • Prisoners from Tamil Nadu can avail 100% tuition fee exemption, provided if they could produce a No Objection Certificate signed by a competent authority.
  • Dyslexia students and other mentally disabled students who have issues with learning will be provided with a 1/3rd of extra time during the examinations. Some degree of leniency will also be shown on the spelling mistakes.
